They clearly aren’t intending to let us get to the midterms, let alone the next presidential. They can sense the wind changing, and it isn’t in their favor.

And yet the Dem leadership just continues being dickless cowards. We need more pressure, more protesters, more boycotting, more disruption NOW.

Worth mentioning here that the title seems to have lost an important detail in getting mirrored to Lemmy:

75% have no criminal record, or 179 individuals.

Edit to say: I’d also mention that the majority of those with a criminal record are for minor, non-violent offenses such as shoplifting and trespassing. Only about 12 (!) have any violence in their criminal record whatsoever, with some of those holding mere accusations of such.

This is why it is so funny to me when a Republican says something to me about how I am in a bubble and “need to stop listening to CNN.” Had a Joe Rogan fan tell me that the other day. I couldn’t help but laugh. For some reason, they seem to think that “leftists” are all just as fanatical about the Democrats as conservatives are about the Republicans.

What was that quote about how history remembers the Germans that tried to ride out the Nazi party? The ones that only joined because they had to, that didn’t support the regime in their hearts, but passively tried to lay low the entire time?

It’s so encouraging see all this support from our allies! I’m so sorry things have gotten so bad globally on our account. We’re doing our best to fix things as quickly as possible!

If you count all of us, that’s a lot of nuts to gargle!

I even saw a Silent Generation fellow at the one I went too! This 92 year old vet walking around with a sign lol. Not sure how to put it into words, but it was somehow comforting seeing both that guy and a bunch of kids playing just off to the side at the same protest.

Bring water and know where the bathrooms are. Wear comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather.

Seems obvious, but if you are going to be standing around the same spot for a few hours this will help. Also it is easy to get bored out there (depending on what the organizers have prepared) so don’t forget to mingle with the other protesters. You meet lots of interesting people at these events and you’ll never run out of engaging conversations to have.

I’m so tired of people telling me I was overreacting or being alarmist when I said…

• That Kamala was going to be a repeat of Hillary
• Trump wants to implement Project 2025
• Trump wants to be a dictator. He will seek a 3rd term (and a 4th, a 5th, and so on).
• Trump will deport innocent people, including permanent residents, or even citizens
• His admin will target political dissidents and opponents
• DOGE is just an excuse for Elon to do a power grab
• on and on and on

Now it’s: Detention centers and El Salvadoran prisons are just the start. They are testing the waters for something much, much worse. (Edit: And to be clear, I wasn’t the only person saying all these things. This isn’t some sort of humble brag. I just listened to the countless experts, historians, and others much smarter and more well informed than me.)

I feel like I got gaslit by the media and Republicans saying that everything was going to be ok. That it was business as usual despite the rhetoric and to hunker down for the eventual pendulum swing back to the left. “Maybe I am overreacting, there’s too many good people, systems, and checks that would stop the worst aspects from happening, surely…”

The best time to act was 4 (or even 8) years ago. The second best time is NOW. “It could never happen here” is so damn entrenched in the subconscious of our society people refuse to see the evidence in front of their eyes.

The problem with this is there are actual Neo-Nazis in the government and MAGA militias. Regardless of what bad actors or the twitter mob that doesn’t know any better say, if it looks like a Nazi, shouts like a Nazi, and salutes like a Nazi…

Her vote against the U.S. aid for Ukraine came just three days after a Russian missile strike on Chernihiv, where her family lived, killed 18 civilians and injured 78. Having previously been lauded in Chernihiv for her life story and as “one of their own”, some inhabitants reactions were described as pride turning into “anger” and a “sense of betrayal” due to her vote against the aid, intensified after the Russian bombing during rush hour on her hometown.

This is after years of advocating for sending aid to Ukraine. Wonder what changed?
