I created an account on the Substack platform for the sole purpose of denouncing the post.
The 250th anniversary of the American Revolution will only ever happen ONCE, and the fact that it’s taking place in the middle of an attack on the Constitution necessitates action even more. I’ve already gone an organized a protest in my town. This IS a day for nationwide protest. Show up, make signs, tell your friends, make shirts and hats, bring family. The 50501 movement will NOT be stifled by miscommunications and distracted leadership.
We already do all the stuff that was listed in that “guidance” posting. A time when democracy is disappearing in front of our eyes and what scraps of money and power that are left are being absorbed by the already wealthy is NO time to backpedal. So yes. Get out there, and make SURE you and everyone you know does so, too.

A few possibilities:
- Leaders getting worried and see calling off protests as the only way to get out of the spotlight.
- Opposition pushing into leadership roles so they can introduce fragmentation like this.
- Leaders are accepting push back from the cities. The whole idea behind a protest is to exercise our first amendment right. If a city is saying no, the response needs to be strong. Lets be peaceful, not pushovers.
- Leaders actually think that we will be able to avoid martial law by not protesting on the 19th, which would be incredibly short-sighted. If an event doesn’t happen from one of our protests, something can be manufactured. Obeying in advance is not a winning strategy.
Not trying to downplay the tremendous work done so far, but the video saying “don’t show up to the protest on the 19th” because of planning issues is tough to buy. It feels like it is coming from an unauthentic source, and without knowing who is backing it - it just adds confusion.
We are going to see a lot more of this I feel, so I hope the national leaders can make the messaging clear across all channels.
